The pool is free-form, curving between mature trees, sandstone boulders and beds of fynbos, with timber loungers on the deck beside it and a reed screen above a stone wall for shelter. A timber pergola shades a built-in outdoor lounge with deep grey cushions, white Acapulco chairs and small round tables. Higher up, a raw-edge timber table with cream leather chairs stands behind a frameless glass balustrade, and the ocean shows over the treetops.
A wall of rough sandstone runs the full height of the main room, a steel-and-timber staircase climbing against it and clerestory glazing above. An upright piano stands at its foot. A lilac corner sofa, a round glass coffee table, a Persian runner, a drinks trolley and a scattering of bean bags make this a room for a large group rather than a showpiece.
The dining room seats eight around a light oak table on timber floors, antique carved chests either side and sliding openings that pull the deck and the sea into the room. The covered patio next to it has grey and wicker sofas, a striped rug, a cast-aluminium bistro set and an outdoor fireplace with its log store stacked ready.
Bedrooms open straight onto the decking. The main one has a buttoned grey headboard, a framed bird print and sliding doors to a terrace with the sea beyond; another is done in white linen with teal cushions and its own doors to the outside. Six bedrooms in all, sleeping twelve.
