Bingley Place is a white colonial-style villa on the seaward side of Victoria Road, its front terrace held by rows of turned white balusters above the rocks. The pool is blue-tiled and rectangular, set into sandstone paving with dark wicker loungers, and the sea is right there at the end of it. A canopy shades the entrance and a white pergola runs along the house. From the terrace the Twelve Apostles curve away to the north and the whole bay lies in front of you.
The best room in the house has no wall on one side. A loggia of white columns and arches opens straight over the water, furnished with wicker armchairs, cane seats and blue-and-white cushions, a fig in a pot and a glass table for drinks. It takes sun in the morning and falls into shade by late afternoon. A treatment table can be set up out here.
The interiors keep to a classic Cape seaside palette of cream walls, sisal underfoot and blue-and-white fabrics. Deep bay windows make natural window seats, and one holds a timber table facing the surf. The dining room seats eight around a round table on cane-backed chairs, with French doors to the pool. The kitchen is cream shaker cabinetry with granite tops, a gas hob on the island and travertine floors, opening into a sitting room hung with botanical prints.
Bedrooms carry the same blue-and-white scheme, one with a bay window and patterned pelmets looking directly out to sea, a cane chair beside it and a dark timber bedstead. The rooms are air-conditioned, which counts for something on this side of the mountain in February.
